Scale
For the Base
- 1 (10–14 oz) angel food cake, torn into bite-sized pieces
For the Cream Layer
- 8 oz (226 g) cream cheese, softened
- 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 8 oz whipped topping (such as Cool Whip), thawed
For the Strawberry Layer
- 4 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar (optional)
- 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
For the Topping
- Fresh strawberry slices, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, combine the sliced strawberries with the sugar (if using) and lemon juice. Toss gently and let stand for 10–15 minutes to release their natural juices.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth and creamy.
- Add the sweetened condensed milk and vanilla extract. Beat until fully combined and silky.
- Fold in the whipped topping until the mixture is light and fluffy.
- Spread half of the angel food cake pieces evenly into the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Spoon and spread half of the cream mixture over the cake.
- Top with half of the prepared strawberries and their juices.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining cake, cream mixture, and strawberries.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 2–3 hours, or until well chilled and set.
- Garnish with additional fresh strawberries before serving, if desired. Serve chilled.
Notes
- Use ripe, fresh strawberries for the sweetest flavor and best texture.
- Allow the dessert to chill for at least 2–3 hours before serving so the layers can set properly.
- Tear the angel food cake into evenly sized bite-sized pieces for the best layered texture.
- Garnish with fresh strawberries just before serving to keep the topping looking bright and fresh.
- This dessert can be made up to one day in advance, making it ideal for entertaining.
- Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 2 days for the freshest flavor.
- Frozen strawberries are not recommended, as they release excess liquid and may make the dessert watery.
- For an elegant presentation, assemble the dessert in individual parfait glasses or dessert cups.
